Add your agent to Discord

Create the application

In the Discord Developer Portal, select New Application. Name it for your agent, such as my-trainer, then select Create.

If you already made an application for this agent, open that one instead.

Open the Bot page

Select Bot in the left sidebar. A new application normally has a bot account already. If Discord shows Add Bot or Create Bot, select it.

Turn on both privileged intents

On the Bot page, scroll to Privileged Gateway Intents. Turn on Server Members Intent and Message Content Intent, then select Save Changes.

Server Members Intent lets Agent Control load the people you can choose as the owner. Message Content Intent lets the bot receive an ordinary message without requiring an @mention.

Make the application private, if you want a personal bot

Do this in order. Select Installation in the sidebar. Under Install Link, choose None and save. Return to Bot, turn off Public Bot, and save again.

This limits installation to the application owner. It does not make a Discord channel private and it does not decide who the agent answers.

Reset and copy the bot token

Still on the Bot page, find Token and select Reset Token. Complete Discord's password or two-factor check, then select Copy.

You need the bot token, not the Application ID, Public Key, or Client Secret. Discord shows the token once. If you lose it, reset it and use the new one.

Paste the token into Agent Control

Return to Agent Control. Paste the token into Discord bot token, then select Connect Discord.

The button changes to Connecting... while Agent Control checks the token and restarts your agent. This can take about 30 seconds. When it works, you will see Discord bot connected and the bot's name.

The token field clears after the check so the secret is not left on screen. You do not need to paste it again after you see the success message.

Start the server install

Select Add my-trainer to a server. This is the step that installs the bot in Discord. If you made the application private, use this button while signed in as the Discord account that created it.

Choose the server in Discord

On Discord's approval screen:

• Choose Add to server, not Add to my apps.
• Select your server.
• Select Continue.
• Review the permissions, select Authorize, and complete the CAPTCHA.

If the server is missing, check that you are signed into the right Discord account and that you have Manage Server permission there.

Create a private home channel

In your Discord server, select Create Channel. Choose Text, name it my-trainer, turn on Private Channel, and create it. When Discord asks who can see the channel, add yourself and the bot.

If you already created the channel, open it and choose Edit Channel > Permissions. For @everyone, deny View Channel. Add yourself and the bot as members. For the bot, allow View Channel, Send Messages, and Read Message History, then save.

Return to Agent Control and check access

Return to the Agent Control tab and select Check access again. Select your server under Installed servers, then choose #my-trainer as the Home channel.

Check the Home channel yourself. Selecting a server may preselect its first available text channel.

Use the personal settings

Choose Just me. Under Who owns this agent?, choose your Discord account. Under Named people, keep only yourself selected. Under Where else can it answer?, choose Home only.

Review, apply, and restart

Select Review changes. Read the summary, then select Apply and restart my-trainer. There is no separate launch button. The restart is part of applying the settings.

Send one message without tagging it

When Agent Control says The settings are saved. Now test the real behavior., select Open the home channel. Send:

Do not tag the bot. If your trainer replies, the setup is complete.
